About

Wilani van Wyk-Smit headshot

Wilani has been drawing since she could hold a pencil and always knew that she would be an artist one day. She studied Graphic Design at the Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and started exhibiting in group shows.

After immigrating to Australia, she focussed on building her business Wildeye,  a graphic design and web development studio, where she is currently Creative Director.

Her work gives her a great sense of satisfaction and artistic outlet as she dabbles in all things creative, including design, typography, hand lettering, painting, illustration, drawing, sewing, crafting and making things.

She has a home studio in the Yarra Valley and is currently working on a new body of work for her upcoming exhibitions.

I am interested in cycles of insight and perception. My paintings are created through intuitive responses to the way objects in space relate to one another. How one motion affects the next is a continuing source of fascination for me.

It is not about what you see in the painting, but about the narrative you feel in the observation.
The intent is for my art to communicate a message that is not always fully seen or felt at first glance, but reveals itself when you are ready.
